Valentine Boxes

Every year, my kids wanted something different for their Valentine’s Day box. Not just different from each other, different from everyone.

So we’d sit down, sketch a few ideas, and then build it together with whatever cardboard, paint, and tape we had around. The ideas got pretty weird (in the best way). A hamburger. A mailbox. A garbage can that dumps out valentines like trash.

These boxes became one of my favorite traditions. A little bit of design. A lot of glue. And some pretty great memories.

My daughter asked me to help make her school Valentine’s Day box into a hamburger. I’m loving it!

Intergalactic Valentine Box

I introduced my son to the Beastie Boys so when it came to making his Valentine box for school he wanted the robot from his favorite music video.

This year my daughter wanted a garbage can for her valentine box this year (yeah, she’s pretty awesome). When you pull the lid up all the valentine cards will spill out like trash.

TV “TeleValentine”

The idea the TeleValentine (TV) came from a conversation we had at dinner. With all the weather related cancelations we thought it would be fun to make a joke about school being canceled due to Valentine’s Day. So, I drew a TV meteorologist giving a weather report and then my son drew Snoopy on the other side. That way as soon as you hear school is canceled you can switch the channel and watch cartoons.
